Hugo Marmelada
Hugo Marmelada was born in Lisboa, Portugal. He started dancing hip hop at the age of 11. 3 years later he joined the Academy of Contemporary Dance of Setúbal, where he finished his studies in 2006.
Since then he has been working with many different dance companies and choreographers such as Compagnie Alias, Amanda Miller, André Mesquita, Itamar Serussi and Bounce Streetdance Company. In 2010 and 2016 he worked with Oslo Dance Ensemble. For Company It Dansa he has performed pieces of Ohad Naharin, Jirí Kylián, Rafael Bonachela, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Alexander Ekman and Catherine Allard. As a member of Carte Blanche he has worked with choreographers Hooman Sharifi, Sharon Eyal, Crystal Pite, Sang Jijia, Ina Christel Johannessen, Marcos Morau, Siri & Snelle, Lina Majdalanie, Mia Habib and Marcelo Evelin. He has also participated in a creation by Hege Haagenrud for the Norwegian National Ballet. From 2017 to 2019 he was a member of Batsheva Dance Company.
Parallel to his career as a dancer, Hugo has been teaching extensively for dance schools, universities and dance companies internationally, both hip hop dance, house dance and experimental. In 2012 he won the second prize for Best Performance and the Public Prize at the International Solo-Dance-Theatre Festival Stuttgart, Germany.
