Halla Thordardottir

Halla Thordardottir holds a BA degree in contemporary dance from Iceland Academy of the Arts 2010-2013, The Ailey School 2008-2009 and Iceland National Ballet School.

Currently a member of Iceland Dance Company (IDC), Halla has performed in pieces by Damien Jalet, Brian Gerke, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Margréti Bjarnadóttur, Ragnar Kjartansson, Jo Strömgren, Ole Martin Meland, Hannes Þór Egilsson, Ásrúnu Magnúsdóttur, Alexander Roberts, Ernu Ómarsdóttur, Katrínu Gunnarsdóttur, Matthew Barney, Sögu Sigurðardóttur, Helenu Jónsdóttur, Karol Tyminski, Frank Fannar Pedersen, Lovísu Ósk Gunnarsdóttur, Höllu Ólafsdóttur, John Moström, Valgerði Rúnarsdóttur and Sigríði Soffíu Níelsdóttur. Halla made her debut as a choreographer with IDC in 2019 when she created in collaboration with Saga Sigurðardóttir and Hannes Þór Egilsson the piece This Graceperformed at the Reykjavík Art Museum.

Additionally, Halla has worked with the choreographer Sasha Waltz, where she danced in the piece Körper with the Swedish National Ballet in 2016. She has also participated in Reykjavik Dance Festival, performing in pieces by Steinunn Ketilsdóttir and Sveinbjörg Þórhallsdóttir, Margrét Bjarnadóttir and Saga Sigurðardóttir, and Helena Jónsdóttir.

Halla performed in the movie Suspiria, directed by the Italian director Luca Guadagnino, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2018. The film was choreographed by Damien Jalet.

Halla received two Grima nominations in 2015 as Dancer of the Year, for her performance in Les Medusées by Damien Jalet and Meadow by Brian Gerke. She was also nominated for the DV Culture Award the same year for her performance in Meadow.
